All of our pieces are handmade from start to finish in our store in Soho, NYC.
Dress weight felt is lighter (~half the weight of western weight felt) and traditionally used for dress / fancier hats, such as short-brimmed Fedoras and Homburg styles.
Western weight felt contains ~twice the amount of felt as dress weight felt. It is more structured and sturdy and typically used for cowboy hats and wider brimmed pieces.

Shipping and Returns

In-Store Styles ship within 1 – 2 business days.
Ready-to-Wear orders are not shipped or delivered on weekends or holidays. If we are experiencing a high volume of orders, shipments may be delayed by a few days. Please allow additional days in transit for delivery. If there will be a significant delay in shipment of your order, we will contact you via email or telephone.
Yes, we ship to most countries. Customer is responsible for any customs and/or taxes applied to his or her order. All fees imposed during or after shipping are the responsibility of the customer (tariffs, taxes, etc.).
If you are unsure if we ship to your country, you can fill out the shipping address form on the checkout page; if shipping options for your residence are available, then we can ship to you!
Customs Process
To get started on a custom piece, you can book an appointment, where we will provide a general overview of our process, answer any questions you may have ,and get your hat started! Check out our process here for further details. The lead time for a custom piece is currently 2 - 4 weeks.

Our custom pieces are predominantly made from beaver (100x or50/50) or nutria fur felt. Dress weight custom hats start at $1,450 and western weight custom hats start at $1,650. Pricing varies based on each hat’s unique specifications and will be determined during your initial appointment
We can also make custom panama straw hats upon request.
Care and Maintenance
Yes. Our hats are predominantly made from beaver or nutria fur felt. Beaver fur felt is made from the undercoat of beaver skins, so it is fairly water resistant.
If the brim of your hat becomes misshapen, we recommend using a steam iron to stiffen and flatten the brim.
Simply steam and press the brim of your hat over a piece of cotton and lay the hat on a flat surface overnight or until dry to regain the original shape of the brim. If you have additional hat care questions, please contact us.
We recommend the following products to clean the felt itself:
- Bickmore Hat Cleaner (light color felts)
- Bickmore Hat Cleaner (dark color felts)
We recommend this Bickmore Leather Kit for cleaning and conditioning our leather sweatbands.
